Morocco and Chile discuss tourism issues

On the occasion of the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries

The Tangier International Higher Institute of Tourism (ISITT) and Santo Tomas University (UST) have just organized an international online seminar on the theme “Tourism challenges in Chile and Morocco”. Innovation and technological transfer in tourism, gastronomy and tourism innovation, the evolution of Chilean pastry, the tourist gastronomy of the medina of Fez and the Arab imprint in the gastronomic culture of Latin America have been among the main subjects at the heart of the debates scheduled during this meeting in which a host of teachers and researchers from both academic institutions took part.

This seminar – which benefited from the support of the Moroccan Association of Tourism Experts and Scientists (AMEST) – took place within the framework of “the celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Chile and the Kingdom of Morocco, and in accordance with the partnership that was signed between ISITT and UST in 2019 ”, according to the organizers. Speaking on this occasion, Adnane Afquir, Director of ISITT, highlighted the intelligent and pragmatic partnership relations between the two countries on the one hand, and the need to develop joint ISITT-UST operational strategies in terms of development. skills in the tourism sector according to exchange formats for students, trainers and the establishment of a joint research-development-innovation platform on the other hand. “An action plan is being implemented for this purpose for the year 2021”, he said. For his part, Roberto Lafontaine, director of international projects of UST, underlined the importance of cooperation and approach between the two countries and the two institutions in the field of tourism and gastronomy. “These academic activities are the basis of the projects of partner institutions aimed at exchanges and promotion of tourism in these two countries within the framework of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Chile and the Kingdom of Morocco”, he added. he wanted to clarify.

The speakers insisted on the urgency of strengthening this dynamic of exchange, sharing and scientific research in order to create a real synergy at the service of the tourism-hotel-catering (THR) sector of the two countries and according to a winning logic. winner. Recall that concluded in December 2019 in Santiago, the framework agreement between ISITT and UST aims to promote a dynamic of partnership between the two academic institutions in the fields of education-training and hotel research-development-innovation. and tourist.

This partnership encompasses various fields of action and intervention, including technical assistance for the creation of new training niches, the exchange of visits from experts and professors, the granting of scholarships to Moroccan students. and Chileans and the organization of student missions. It allows the two signatory partners “to develop a joint continuing education offer and to implement continuing education and skills development actions for technical trainers in the hotel, restaurant and tourism industries”, according to this partnership.
