Tourism in Souss-Massa: Improving catering in the line of sight
The Tourism Development Company launches a consultation with professionals
“The city of Agadir is considered the first seaside destination in Morocco. It welcomes more than a million tourists annually from all over the world ”.
The improvement of catering for tourism in the tourist and seaside sector of Agadir (STB) is the new project opened by the Company “Développement tourisme Souss-Massa SDR”. In order to revitalize this sector, the SDR-Tourisme Souss-Massa is launching a consultation which aims to carry out a detailed study of the tourist catering sector of Agadir with a view to proposing a plan / support mechanism and upgrading of tourist-oriented restaurants located in the tourist and seaside sector (STB) of the city of Agadir: area going from Avenue Hassan II (on both banks) in the east to the corniche at the west, the Marina to the north and the Founty district to the south.
This mission is perfectly in line with the overall strategy of SDR-Tourisme Souss-Massa for the development of regional tourism. And comes to enhance the quality of services of restaurants with tourist vocation, improve the level and competitiveness of catering establishments, offer new catering systems meeting the expectations and demands of the national and international clientele of the tourist resort of Agadir, and put in place a support and upgrading system for these establishments.
According to the SDR, “the city of Agadir is considered to be the first seaside destination in Morocco. It welcomes more than a million tourists annually from all over the world to admire its beautiful landscape, its mild climate and discover its rich and diverse cultural heritage. Catering is one of the activities that reinforces the tourist attractiveness of the destination thanks to the richness of the culinary art and the gastronomic heritage of Morocco in general and of the Souss-Massa region in particular, which is a region known by the diversity and particularity of its local products (honey, argan oil, saffron, etc.); this diversity is all the more reinforced by the presence of establishments specializing in catering from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and others ”.
Note that in Agadir, capital of the Souss-Massa region, and second tourist destination in the country, almost all tourist-oriented restaurants are located in the tourist and seaside sector of the city. A very good location which contributes to the creation of animation and atmosphere throughout the corniche like other activities related to the tourism sector (water sports, pleasure boats, well-being and Spa …) . However, the restaurant industry has been facing financial, management, marketing and other difficulties in recent years. This has led to judicial reorganizations and liquidations, the cessation of activities and the closures of certain establishments. Several factors are at the origin of this crisis, in particular inappropriate management, product degradation, competition from the All Inclusive system applied by several accommodation units.
